Managed care has imposed stringent cost-containment on most clincians who work within the insurance system. Because of this, many patients' local clinicians decline to order lab tests the patients believe they need. If it is allowed in your state in the U.S., I'll be happy to order long distance the tests you want. If you want me to order the tests for you, please contact my wife, Tammy Lowe. You can phone her at 603-391-6061 or write to her at Tammy@drowe.com. She'll arrange a brief telephone consultation for you with me. During the consultation, you and I can discuss the tests you want, and I may make suggestions for alternate or additional tests I think are relevant to your concern. I'll then order the tests for you. Tammy will help you find the laboratory in your home town that's most convenient for you. She'll then send a requisition for the tests to the lab. Some laboratories, such as Diagnos-Techs, send test kits by courier to patients in different states and countries. After the patient collects the required sample, such as saliva, urine, or other materials, the courier picks up the kit and delivers it t to the laboratory. When the results are available, we send you a copy of the results, and if any results warrant it, Tammy schedules an appointment for you and me to discuss the results. During our consultation, I'll explain your test results in relation to whatever health problem you're concerned about. If appropriate, I'll also talk with you about any indicated treatments. How You Pay Lab Test Fees. Our regions for Qwest medical laboratories are Southwest Texas and some adjacent states, and Colorado. If you live in one of these areas, we may charge you for the cost of your lab tests. Most patients pay by credit card. If you live outside our regions, you'll probably have to pay your local lab directly when you go in to give a blood, urine, or other sample. Some labs may bill your insurance. When I order tests through labs such as Diagnos-Techs, you'll need to pay the lab directly for the cost of the tests. Diagnos-Techs bills Blue Shield-Blue Cross and at times, some other insurance carriers. We'll provide you with a Superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement for any of our charges. Our sanity is partly sustained by our not taking insurance assignments and not filing insurance claims for patients.
