Before becoming obsessed with solving the problem of fibromyalgia, I specialized in myofascial therapy. This is a treatment approach that is, when competently applied, highly effective at relieving myofascial pain. It can be so effective that I'm baffled when patients often tell me doctors have told to them, "There's no treatment for myofascial pain; you're just going to have to learn to live with it." This statement, of course, is patently false. Through the years that I've researched fibromyalgia and treated patients for it, I've treated only very few patients with myofascial therapy. However, I've never lost sight of its extraordinary effectiveness. Instead, I've referred patient-after-patient to one of the world's leading experts on myofascial therapy and one of its most effective practitioners, Richard Finn. Richard is head of the Pittsburgh School of Pain Management. Therapists and doctors travel to Pittsburgh for Richard to teach them how to properly diagnose and treat patients for myofascial pain. I've just now learned, however, that this coming weekend, this coming weekend, he is teaching a course in Houston, Texas. This is a special opportunity for those who want some of the best training in myofascial therapy available today. A weekend with Richard Finn is a very special one indeed for practitioners interested in myofascial therapy. I am sending this special announcement out to our subscribers because of a widespread interest among them in myofascial pain. We know this because of what our website statistics show: out of almost 400 pages on www.drlowe.com, the myofascial home page is always among the top ten visited. Because of that, I trust that many of our readers will want to avail themselves of this special opportunity to be trained by Richard Finn.

A Call for Research Foundation Volunteers, and Our Clinical Services Tammy Lowe Dr. Lowe and I have relocated to The Woodlands, Texas. The Woodlands is an area north of Houston and close to the International Airport. We are here now for several reasons. Among the reasons is to mobilize an educational campaign by our 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization, the Fibromyalgia Research Foundation (FRF). Because FRF is based in Texas, our being here will enable us to be more effective in our forthcoming educational campaign. Along with the other members of our Board of Directors, Jackie and Michael Yellin, we will soon be mobilizing FRF's new international educational campaign. The first purpose of the campaign is to get word out to patients, doctors, and researchers that the problem of fibromyalgia has been solved. The second purpose is to aid the understanding of the nature of fibromyalgia so that patients and their doctors can use the information to relieve the patients' suffering. Seeking Volunteers. In preparation
for our educational campaign, we are asking for volunteers to help FRF
accomplish its mission. On October 15, 2007, in preparation for the
educational campaign,
FRF's Board appointed me Executive Director. My main responsibility is
to see to it that the Board's policies and programs are put into action
through my work with FRF volunteers. My first assignment is to select
volunteers who, in various capacities, will help put FRF's educational
campaign into motion. Dr. Lowe's Clinical Services. Dr. Lowe will continue to provide research-quality metabolic evaluations for patients. He will do this, however, on a more selective basis than in the past. A "more selective basis" means that he'll be limiting the number of patients he evaluates. This will enable him to invest more time in conducting and publishing studies, finishing several books that are overdue for publication, and helping spearhead FRF's new educational campaign through forthcoming web seminars and speaking engagements. Although on a more limited basis , he will continue to work with patients and their other clinicians in the effort to help the patients recover their health. He will also continue to help patients and their clinicians through long-distance consultations. Many patients in the Denver/Boulder area have recently inquired about our services. We have a cotreating physician in Denver who is working with our Denver/Boulder patients, and we will be in the area, probably one week in March, to see a limited number of patients. Afterward, the patients can, if they wish, work with both the Denver cotreating physician and with Dr. Lowe through long-distance consulting. For your convenience, we have a menu of our clinical services and fees: Your Options for Metabolic Evaluations and Treatment. If you want to talk about our clinical services, or about volunteering to help in FRF's new campaign, you can reach me by phone at 603-391-6061. If you prefer to write about our services, please email me at Tammy@drlowe.com. To talk about volunteering for FRF, please write to Tammy@FibromyalgiaResearch.org. Dr. John C.
