A Message From
Dr. John C. Lowe
Director of Research

Each year, many billions of taxpayers' dollars are funneled into big research bureaucracies. The record shows that the public gets precious little in return for these billions of dollars. We feel that those who contribute money for research deserve more—they deserve substantial positive results for their money. And this is exactly what comes from dollars donated to FRF.

FRF doesn't spend donated money—or any other money—on large, luxurious facilities with elaborate furnishings and equipment. In fact, for most of its history, FRF has been housed in a donated office in my private clinic. At other times, FRF has operated from a donated office in the home of Jackie Yellin (our Director of Education) and Michael Yellin, CPA (our Secretary).

FRF also doesn't spend donated dollars on salaries and benefits. No one who works on behalf of FRF (doing research, providing education, or managing its operation) is paid. Each and every person works entirely on a volunteer basis. (In the near future, we plan to make one exception to this volunteer policy. We very much need the services of an Executive Director. Because of the heavy burden of responsibilities this person will bear, she or he will receive a salary, although a modest one.)

On what, then, do we spend donated money? Practically every dollar is spent for one of two things: (1) research costs (for example, capsules prepared by compounding pharmacies for research studies), or (2) educational materials for the public, patients, and health care professionals. The fact has been well publicized that some research organizations spend up to 90% of donated money for facilities, salaries, and benefits to employees. In stark contrast, we  remain committed to our policy of spending the vast majority of money donated to FRF on research and education. By doing so, we will continue to return positive, meaningful results for the dollars the public entrusts to FRF.
