Ineffective and Harmful for Many Hypothyroid Patients

The document this page
introduces is a formal paper by Dr. John C. Lowe. In it, he presents documentary evidence for the ineffectiveness and
harm of
thyroid hormone replacement for
many hypothyroid patients.
The paper is a formal
critique of four studies published in 2003. These studies showed that two types of replacement therapies were
ineffective for many patients. Other studies, which
Dr. Lowe cites, also
show that patients using T4-replacement have an increased incidence
of other diseases associated with hypothyroidism, and increased
chronic use of drugs to control persisting hypothyroid symptoms and
the other diseases.
In that the paper is
a formal critique, Dr. Lowe had to present his arguments with
extreme precision. To do so required, at some points in the
paper, that he use language some patients with cognitive dysfunction
may find hard to understand. However, his Editor, Jackie Yellin,
worked with him to simplify the language as far as precision
allows. This makes most of the paper easy to understand.
If some parts of the paper aren't
clear to a reader, Dr. Lowe and Jackie encourage him or her to write for
clarification. (Please send emails to
DrJohnLowe@aol.com.)
The content of the paper is extremely important to the health and
well-being of hypothyroid patients. Because of that, we'll post
clarifications on a dedicated page at drlowe.com. We encourage
readers to bookmark the page and visit it at intervals to read the
clarifications.
Below is a
"Table of Contents" for the
paper. The Table contains links to different sections and subsections
of the paper.
This paper will soon
be published as an appendix in Dr. Lowe's new book titled Tyranny
of the TSH.
