American Preventive Medical Association (APMA) The motto of the APMA is "Making Health Care Freedom a Reality." APMA is a political voice for health care practitioners who use complementary therapies. APMA stands for freedom of choice in health care for U.S. citizens. This means they actively fight the FDA, conventional medical associations, and insurance companies. APMA actively opposes such enemies of freedom and obstacles to medical advancement. It does so through activities on Capitol Hill, state legislatures, the courts, and the media. We urge readers to support the APMA.

Nutritional & Metabolic TeleMedicine
Dr. John Dommisse
http://www.JohnDommisseMD.com

Dr. Dommisse opens the homepage of his website with this quote: "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I — I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference." (Robert Frost: "The Road Not Taken")

The quote accurately represents the professional course of this courageous nutritional and metabolic physician. To follow that righteous course, he has had to stand up to and defeat what in my opinion are diabolical forces, including a "quackbuster" physician, the Arizona medical board, the kangaroo courts of Arizona, and "Quackbuster" and "Casewatch" websites. Those forces would, if only they could, deprive Arizona patients of any medical care other than what my old friend Robert S. Mendelsohn, MD, called "cut-burn-and-poison medicine." At great cost and by admirable perseverance, Dr. Dommisse still provides gentler, more scientifically-based, and more health-sustaining medicine to the patients who seek his care.

Thyroid Problem Advice
http://www.thyroidtalk.com

Thyroid Problem Advice is an excellent informational website for thyroid patients. Samantha Long is the site's host. She knows what it's like to suffer from an underactive thyroid gland. And so, as you might expect, the information on her site is highly relevant to the needs of thyroid patients. Thyroid Talk provides help; advice; selected thyroid news; discussions for people with thyroid problems; and listings of thyroid practitioners, associations and meetings. As the site grows, we believe it will become one of the most valuable on the Internet to thyroid patients. We strongly recommend it.

Thyroid UK

Thyroid UK is a non-profit organization in the United Kingdom. The organization campaigns for those with thyroid disease and provides information and support. The information and support can be of help to patients in any country. Patients in the United Kingdom, however, are in special need of the information and support. In that country, the conventional endocrinology, in league with the regulatory agency called the "General Medical Council," have a strangle hold on hypothyroid patients. By political tyranny exerted through the General Medical Council, conventional endocrinology forces doctors to submit to practice guidelines that keep hypothyroid and thyroid hormone resistance patients ill and susceptible to premature death. The guidelines are derived from false beliefs of conventional endocrinology  that are based on bad science and financial incentives from corporations that profit from the sales of thyroxine and TSH assays. The information and support Thyroid UK provides may enable a patient to maneuver out of the strangle hold of conventional endocrinology and recover his or her health. We fully endorse the humanitarian efforts of Thyroid UK.

Albert Ellis Institute

The Albert Ellis Institute was previously named the Institute for Rational-Emotive Therapy. The Institute is a not-for-profit educational organization that was founded in 1968. According to the Institute, "Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy is a humanistic, action-oriented approach to emotional growth, first articulated by Dr. Albert Ellis in 1955, which emphasizes individuals' capacity for creating their emotions; the ability to change and overcome the past by focusing on the present; and the power to choose and implement satisfying alternatives to current patterns."

Comment on Dr. Albert Ellis
by Dr. John C. Lowe

"During the first two-thirds of my life, I spent half my time in debilitating suicidal depression. Eventually, I figured out that certain parts of my brain were under-regulated by thyroid hormone. Supraphysiologic dosages of T3 (but not T4 or desiccated thyroid) gave me normal brain function and completely relieved my suicidal depression. During my dark years of intermittent hopelessness and despair, it was the writings and lectures of psychologist Dr. Albert Ellis that saved me from death by my own hand. I carried his and Dr. Robert Harper's A New Guide to Rational Living with me more often than I carried a wallet. Since the time I acquired normal brain metabolism and freedom from debilitating depression, I've continued to use Dr. Ellis' teachings. Practicing his philosophy of rational thinking has helped me make the most of these far-better years. I provide this link because I know Dr. Ellis' work can help others with impaired metabolism (including those with fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome, hypothyroidism, and thyroid hormone resistance) get through the roughest of times."

Dr. Ellis' and other authors' books on rational living are available through the Web site of the Albert Ellis Institute.

PubMed

PubMed is a "search tool" of the National Library of Medicine. It is a retrieval system for published biomedical studies. The system was developed in conjunction with publishers of biomedical literature as a search tool for accessing literature citations and for linking to their full-text versions at the publishers' websites. The system searches some eight million citations in Medline (the world's largest data bank of published medical studies). It is supplemented by pre-Medline citations.

Patients who use this system properly stand a good chance of finding answers to their medical questions. Instructions for using the system are available at the site.
