Institute of Medical Careers
Treatment and Education in
Myofascial Trigger Point Syndromes
See our Myofascial Pain section
to read about the Institute and its Director,
Richard Finn,
CMTPM. At the Institute,
students, often health care practitioners, undergo training
that leads to certification as myofascial trigger point therapists.
Richard Finn, in Dr. Lowe's opinion, is the most knowledgeable person on
the globe about myofascial abnormalities and proper treatments for them.
Also, Dr. Lowe considers Richard and his wife, Carol, supreme experts at the
treatment for pain of originating from trigger points and other myofascial
abnormalities. Dr. Lowe strongly recommends their educational and
therapeutic care.

Thyroid UK
Thyroid UK
is a non-profit, charitable
organization in the United Kingdom. It is a thyroid patient advocacy
organization. Dr. Lowe is a member of its Board of Medical Advisors.
The organization campaigns for those
with thyroid disease and provides information and support. The information
and support can be of help to patients in any
country. Patients in the United Kingdom, however, are in special need of the
information and support. In that country,
conventional endocrinology, in league with the regulatory agency
called the "General Medical Council," have a
strangle hold on hypothyroid
patients.
By political tyranny exerted through the General Medical
Council, conventional endocrinology in the UK forces doctors to submit to practice
guidelines that keep hypothyroid and thyroid hormone resistance patients ill
and susceptible to premature death. The guidelines are derived from false
beliefs of conventional endocrinology that are based on bad science
and financial incentives from corporations that profit from the sales of thyroxine and TSH assays.
The information and support Thyroid UK provides
may enable a patient to maneuver out of the strangle hold of conventional
endocrinology and recover his or her health. We fully endorse the
humanitarian efforts of Thyroid UK. |
Protect Your Rights to
Natural Health Methods
I join Bette Dowdell in her last e-zine (Too Pooped to Participate) urging that you
sign up to receive alerts from the Alliance for Natural Health:
Alliance for Natural Health
Some legislators are friends of Big Pharma,
and these legislators' actions make it clear that they'll use their
influence to try to deprive us of natural methods of protecting our health.
If they succeed,
we'll be enslaved to Big Pharma's drugs to try to control the illnesses
we'll develop from our
lost natural health protections.
An example of such a legislator
is California's Representative Henry Waxman. As Bette noted, Waxman attempts to sneak
anti-dietary supplement legislation deep into the back pages of unrelated
legislation. I consider this unscrupulous of him. In my opinion, Waxman's actions are diabolical in their
potential harm to US citizens, and we need the Alliance for
Natural Health to protect us from this legislator.
You can easily learn of these stealth attacks on our
health freedoms and conveniently
let your legislators know you oppose them. The weight of the citizenry's
opinions have many times blocked insidious actions
against our freedoms, such as those Waxman has tried to impose. You can conveniently let your
legislators know that you insist on health freedoms by subscribing
to the newsletter of the Alliance for Natural Health.
Another advocacy group that fights for our health freedoms is
Citizens for Health.
Whichever activist group you use to let
you know it's time to notify your legislators how you feel
about anti-freedom legislation, I personally thank you for taking part.

For extensive educational information on natural health in general,
Dr. Joseph Mercola's website is
about the best site to read. He covers topics that are highly favorable
to people in general, and to fibromyalgia, hypothyroid, and thyroid
hormone resistance patients in particular. Dr. Mercola's site contains
mountains of information especially for those who have taken their
health care into their own hands. I strongly encourage that readers sign
up for his frequent newsletters.
Dr. Richard Podell

Dr. Richard Podell
is an exemplary integrative medical physician. He provides treatment
for fibromyalgia/chronic fatigue syndrome patients as well as those with
other medical problems. He emphasizes an integrative approach combining
the judicious use of standard medical therapies with holistic support of
the body's natural healing systems including nutrition, herbs, hormones,
and mind-body approaches. His website contains an enormous amount of
information on various disorders and their treatment with modern
integrative methods.

Albert Ellis, PhD
&
Debbie Joffe Ellis, PhD,
but NOT
the Albert Ellis Institute!
Whether your guiding your own health care without the help
of clinicians, and even if you're using clinicians, deal with the
psychological end of health is crucial for most people. The best self help I
know of comes from Dr. Albert Ellis and Dr. Debbie Joffe Ellis.
Dr. Albert Ellis created and developed Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy
(REBT for short) in between 1953 and 1955. Here is a summary comment about REBT that I've had
on this page for many years:
|
REBT is a humanistic, action-oriented
approach to emotional growth and health. The therapy
emphasizes the individual's capacity for creating his or her own emotions,
the ability to change and overcome the past by focusing on the present, and
the power to choose and implement satisfying alternatives to current
troubling emotional patterns. |
Dr. Albert Ellis was trained as a
psychoanalyst and practiced psychotherapy for ten years. However, but he
soon saw that psychoanalysis was ineffective. As a student of logic and
philosophy, he was aware of the ancient Stoics, such as Epictetus and
Seneca.
"The Fake Albert
Ellis Institute."
Dr. Ellis
established his institute as the "Institute for Rational-Emotive Therapy."
Later, in his honor, the Institute was renamed the "Albert Ellis Institute."
Tragically, several years before his death at 93, a palace
coup occurred. In the process, power-controlling officials at the Institute essentially
threw
Dr. Ellis out of his
own Institute. They also kept the millions of dollars he had donated to the
Institute over the years.
After the coup, those who carried it out began changing the
philosophical underpinnings upon which Dr. Ellis had based his real
Institute. The disgraceful conduct by those who performed the
illegal coup was not stopped legally. And Dr. Ellis made it clear in his autobiography that those
who carried out the coup and
now run "the fake Albert Ellis Institute" are not providing what he
intended the Institute to provide.
Dr. Albert Ellis' wife,
Dr. Debbie Joffe Ellis, stood
by him virtually every moment to the very end. Robbed of the fortune he had
donated to his Institute, they lived off meager funds as those who carried
out the coup lavished in the Institute's fortune. In my opinion, the Albert Ellis Institute essentially no
longer exists. It is a facility commandeered by officials who have stooped
so low as to rob Dr. Ellis of the use of his own name. For example, these
shameless individuals threatened to sue Ellis' supporters if they used his
name within the webpage address to a new website dedicated to him.
Where to Learn More about Dr. Albert Ellis and Undergo
Training.
I
personally would never refer anyone to the Albert Ellis Institute—not for psychotherapy
nor to
purchase Dr. Ellis' books, tapes, or other educational materials. I
strongly urge those interested in his work to find secondary sources of his
books and other educational materials rather than buying them from the fake
Albert Ellis Institute. For finding a practitioner of REBT, I recommend
that one go to
Albert-Ellis-Friends.net or to
communicate with
Dr. Debbie Joffe Ellis.
Despite the illegal activities of the scoundrels who robbed Dr. Ellis of the
benefits of his decades of dedicated labor, Dr. Ellis' work lives on. It is championed by many
psychologists, counselors, and psychiatrists. Most prominent among them, of
course, is the wife Dr. Ellis passionately loved,
Dr. Debbie Joffe Ellis,
who lovingly cared for him in adversity until his end .
Dr. Debbie Joffe Ellis now promote Dr. Albert Ellis' work for the
continuing benefit of humanity.

Comment
on Dr. Albert Ellis
by Dr. John
C. Lowe
"During the first
two-thirds of my life, I spent half my time in debilitating suicidal depression.
Eventually, I figured out that certain parts of my brain were under-regulated by thyroid
hormone. Supraphysiologic dosages of T3 (but not T4 or desiccated thyroid) gave me normal
brain function and completely relieved my suicidal depression. During my dark years of
intermittent hopelessness and despair, it was the writings and lectures of psychologist
Dr. Albert Ellis that saved me from death by my own hand. I carried his and Dr. Robert
Harper's A New Guide to Rational Living with me more often than I carried a wallet.
Since the time I acquired normal brain metabolism and freedom from debilitating
depression, I've continued to use Dr. Ellis' teachings. Practicing his philosophy of
rational thinking has helped me make the most of these far-better years. I provide this
link because I know Dr. Ellis' work can help others with impaired metabolism
(including those with fibromyalgia/chronic
fatigue syndrome, hypothyroidism, and thyroid hormone resistance) get through the roughest of times."

On
July 14, 2010 at 2:54am, as I worked on Speeding Up to Normal, I was,
as I'm wont to do, listening to George Noree's AM radio show,
Coast-to-Coast.
The brilliant Durk Pearson was his guest that night.
Durk, of course, is a walking-sitting encyclopedia on
biochemistry, physiology, nutrition, dietary supplements, and FDA
regulations and head-to-toe corruption of the agency. So the interview was
valuable to me, as Durk's interviews and writings always are to me.
At one point, Durk answered another question from a
listener, he had many others on the show, with a highly technical answer in
terms entirely understandable to the average person.
Suddenly George blurted out, "How do you know all
this?"
Durk answered modestly , "Well, I read a lot."
He followed up by advising people to educate themselves. He
noted that they can do so by using to
PubMed. I've recommended the same for many years, and we've kept
a link on this sources page to PubMed.
When you reach PubMed, type in as keywords whatever you're
interested in, such as a medical condition, a health question, or some nutritional
supplement. Provide the search terms so people can learn about
their health problems and natural medicine methods of improving or relieving
them.
PubMed is a "search tool" of the National Library of Medicine. It is a retrieval system for published
biomedical studies. The system was developed in conjunction with publishers of biomedical
literature as a search tool for accessing literature citations and for linking to their
full-text versions at the publishers' websites. The system searches some eight million
citations in Medline (the world's largest data bank of published medical studies). It is
supplemented by pre-Medline citations.
Patients who use this system properly stand a good chance
of finding answers to their medical questions. Instructions for using the system are
available at the site. The more we learn
about our particular health problem, the more intelligently we can make our health care
decisions. We encourage everyone to read, learn, and take control of their
own health.
