It is common knowledge among the health-conscious Americans that Big Parma relentlessly tries to deprive us of health freedoms of choice. Its aim is to coerce us into augmenting its already gargantuan financial profits. Some Members of Congress cooperate with these attempts at coercion. They do so by submitting bills that if passed deprive us of the freedom to use certain dietary supplements—despite the fact that the supplements are harmless and health sustaining. Such a bill (S.1137) now targets DHEA. The Senate Judiciary Committee is discussing a bill that if passed will classify DHEA as a controlled substance. If this happens, it will deprive millions of Americans of the use of this beneficial dietary supplement. As the authors at SOS (Save our Supplements) correctly point out: "DHEA dietary supplements, which have been on the market for over 20 years, are derived from a plant in the wild yam family. DHEA is not an anabolic steroid. It is a naturally occurring hormone that has a wide range of benefits, including maintaining muscle strength and strong bones, boosting immunity, and improving mood and sleep patterns. Further studies suggest that DHEA may be helpful for such conditions as obesity, cancer and Alzheimer’s disease. Unlike the anabolic steroids already classified as controlled substances, DHEA is a prohormone with little or no potential for abuse as a performance-enhancing ingredient. It is a supplement of benefit to aging Americans." Whether you use DHEA or not, urging your Members of Congress to reject this bill is crucially important to generally protecting your freedom of choice in health matters. It takes little study to learn that your freedom of choice means lost revenues to Big Pharma, and it will continue to use its financial resources to deprive you and me of choice. SOS makes it easy for you to appeal to your Members of Congress. We urge you to act now to help stop Congress from passing bill S.1137; it will take fewer than five minutes of your time. Thank you for helping preserve our freedoms of choice in protecting our health.
